The Capuchin church and monastery were built in 1726-1733 at the cost of Duke Pawel Karol Sanguszko. The location of the object was chosen to be a square at Krakowskie Przedmieście. On the other side of the square there was the Sanguszko family palace.

The first monks arrived at the monastery in 1724. The Church of St. Peter and Paul the Apostles was consecrated on August 16, 1733. The temple was built in the Tuscan Baroque style, in a modest form characteristic for Capuchin architecture.

The monastery consists of four wings and is attached to the church from the west. The temple consists of one rectangular nave and side chapels. The facade of the church is decorated with Tuscan pilasters and a triangular gable. In its centre there is the Capuchins symbol - the Eye of Providence. The statues of St. Peter and St. Paul are on both sides of the church. The building originally had nine altars (from which only seven did survive), decorated with paintings of the Dutch painter Peter van Roy.

The church became a necropolis of the Sanguszko family. In 1750 its founder Duke Pawel Karol Sanguszko was buried in a crypt under the church choir. The crypt is also the resting place of a large part of the family representatives.

In 1864 Capuchin monasteries throughout Poland were dissolved and the church in Lublin was closed. The monks returned to the monastery in 1919 and have been taking care of the shrine to this day.

Other memento of the Sanguszko family being preserved until now is the portrait of Duke Paweł Karol Sanguszko, located on a monastery choir.
